Epson TM-H6000VI troubleshooting: lights, jams and slips
Read the three Error lights and the Slip light, clear receipt and slip jams, and get the TM-H6000VI printing again.
In this guide
The TM-H6000VI has a Power light, three Error lights, a Paper light and a Slip light. Which Error lights are on tells you what is wrong. When the printer is ready, the Power light is on and the Error lights are off.

| Error lights 1 and 2 on; cover may not open | Autocutter error | Fix 2 → |
| Error lights 1 and 3 on | Slip paper jam | Fix 3 → |
| All three Error lights on | Roll paper cover opened during printing | Fix 4 → |
| Slip light keeps flashing | Slip not detected, or paper left in the path | Fix 5 → |
| Power light flashing | Clock battery empty, or an internal error | Fix 6 → |
| No lights, or no error but nothing prints | Power, cable, driver or settings | Fix 7 → |
| Printer not found on the network | No link, wrong IP address or blocked protocol | Fix 8 → |
| Blank or faded receipts, faint slips | Roll reversed, dirty printhead or worn ribbon | Fix 9 → |
Some errors must be cleared from your POS software after the fix; ask your supplier how. After a self-test, restart the printer instead.
Fixes
1. Cover open or paper outError light 1 on, or Paper light on
CauseThe roll paper cover, the receipt unit or the front cover is not closed, or there is no paper. The Paper light alone means the roll is nearly used up.
Fix
- Close all three covers firmly.
- If the light stays on, open the roll paper cover, remove the empty core and load a new roll the right way round.
- Pull out a little paper, close the cover and tear off the end.
2. Autocutter errorError lights 1 and 2 on
CausePaper or a foreign object blocks the autocutter. The blade can then lock the roll paper cover.
Fix
- Open the roll paper cover, remove the object or paper scraps, and clear the error.
- If the cover won't open, or the error returns: open the receipt unit. With a ballpoint pen or tweezers, turn the autocutter blade knob in the arrow direction until a pin shows in the frame opening.
- Open the roll paper cover, pull out a little paper, close the cover and tear off the end.
3. Slip paper jamError lights 1 and 3 on
CauseA slip, or a torn piece of one, is stuck in the slip path.
Fix
- Open the front cover.
- Open the front carriage unit with the lever on its right side.
- Remove the paper carefully.
- Close the front carriage unit with the lever, close the front cover and clear the error. If it stays on, switch the printer off and on again.
4. Printing stopped by an open coverAll three Error lights on
CauseThe roll paper cover was opened while a receipt was printing.
Fix
- Pull out a little paper, close the roll paper cover and tear off the end.
- Clear the error in your software, or restart the printer if it was running a self-test.
5. Slip not acceptedSlip light keeps flashing
CauseThe printer waits for a slip to be inserted or removed. If it keeps flashing, the sheet is not detected or paper is left in the path.
Fix
- Insert the sheet with its right edge against the right paper guide, as the label on the printer shows. Use flat sheets without folds, staples or clips.
- If the light flashes right after switching on, open the front cover and front carriage unit and remove any paper scraps.
- Still flashing with all covers closed? Adjust the slip paper sensor with the Epson TM-H6000VI Slip Paper Sensor Adjustment Tool for Windows from the Epson Download Center.
6. Power light flashingWith or without other lights
CauseAlone: the built-in clock battery has run out. With other flashing lights: an internal error. It also flashes while a self-test waits for you to press FEED.
Fix
- Clock battery: connect the printer by USB and set the time with the TM-H6000VI Utility.
- Internal error: switch the printer off at once. If the error comes back after switching on, the printer needs service. Contact us.
- Never switch off during a firmware update.
7. Nothing printsNo lights, or no error
CauseNo power, a loose cable, a missing driver, mismatched settings, or a pause to cool down.
Fix
- Power light off: check both plugs of the power supply and the power switch.
- Run a self-test: hold FEED while you switch on. If it prints, the problem is the connection or software.
- USB: install APD6 for TM-H6000VI, see our Windows driver guide.
- Serial: the factory settings are 19200 bps, 8 data bits, no parity and DTR/DSR.
- Long receipt runs can overheat the printhead or motors. The printer pauses and continues by itself.
8. Printer not reachable on the networkEthernet light off or flashing
CauseLight off: no link. Flashing: no IP address yet. On but no printing: wrong IP address or a blocked printing method.
Fix
- Check the cable at both ends.
- Print a status sheet: hold the status sheet button at the back for 3 seconds, then choose the sheet with FEED as the printout explains. Compare the IP address with your driver or POS settings.
- If the sheet shows "Security Mode: RED", plain network printing such as port 9100 is blocked by default. Use RED-compatible Epson software; see the setup guide.
- To reset only the network settings: switch off, close all covers, remove the connector cover, then hold the status sheet button while you switch on until a message prints.
9. Poor print qualityBlank or faded receipts, faint slips
CauseBlank receipts: the roll is the wrong way round. Faded receipts: a dirty printhead or unsuitable paper. Faint slips: a worn ribbon.
Fix
- Blank receipts: load the roll the other way round.
- Faded receipts: switch off, open the roll paper cover, let the printhead cool and wipe it with a cotton swab and ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Epson recommends this every 3 months.
- Faint slips: replace the ERC-32 ribbon cartridge behind the front cover.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Slip light flashing on my TM-H6000VI?
The printer is waiting for you to insert or remove a slip. If it keeps flashing, check for paper scraps in the slip path and see Fix 5.
How do I reset the TM-H6000VI?
To reset only network settings, hold the status sheet button while switching on. To restore all settings, run a self-test, hold FEED for 1 second, press FEED briefly four times and hold, then press it once and hold. Switch off when it has finished.
Why won't the roll paper cover open?
The autocutter blade is out of position after a cutter error. Open the receipt unit and turn the blade knob until the pin shows, as in Fix 2.
