Most problems with the corded QD2200 and QW2520 come down to the USB connection, the interface, the keyboard layout or the Scan Mode. Barcodes named below are in your model's Quick Reference Guide (QRG) or Product Reference Guide (PRG): QD2200 QRG, QD/QW2500 QRG and QuickScan 2500 Family PRG. For the QD2200 there is also the QuickScan I QD2200 PRG.

    Fixes

    1. No light, no beepNothing happens when you plug in the cable or pull the trigger

CauseThe scanner gets no power: the cable is not locked in the handle, or the USB port or cable is faulty.

    Fix

    1. Push the cable connector into the handle until it clicks, with its clip on the same side as the release hole.
    2. Unplug the USB end and plug it into another USB port on the PC. A working scanner gives four beeps at power-up.
    3. Still silent? Try another PC, then contact us.
    2. Scanner reads, but no text appearsBeep and green light, empty field

CauseNo input field is active, or the scanner is set to an interface your software does not use.

    Fix

    1. Click into a field, or open Notepad, so the text has somewhere to go.
    2. For typing into any program, scan Select USB Keyboard from your QRG (PRG name: Select USB Standard Keyboard). Interface barcodes need one scan, without ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE.
    3. Software that reads a COM port needs Select USB-COM-STD and the Datalogic USB-COM driver.
    4. Scanned Select USB-OEM by mistake? The PRGs say to hold the trigger down while you plug in the scanner to unlock it, then scan the correct interface barcode.
    3. Light blinks slowly, scanner won't readLight on 100 ms, off 900 ms, no beep

CauseDatalogic calls this state "Reader Disabled" (QD2200) or "Imager Disabled" (QW2520). Datalogic notes that some interfaces start the scanner in the disabled state at power-up.

    Fix

    1. If your POS supplier set a special interface on purpose, ask them before you change it.
    2. If you need keyboard mode, pull the trigger and hold it for 5 seconds. The scanner then accepts programming barcodes.
    3. Scan Select USB Keyboard.
    4. Wrong charactersY and Z swapped, accents instead of digits, wrong symbols

CauseThe scanner sends key positions for a US keyboard by default, while Windows uses your local layout.

    Fix

Set the Country Mode that matches your Windows layout, for example Estonian, Latvian QWERTY, Lithuanian, Finnish, Polish Programmer or Czech, or use ALT mode. The table and steps are in QD2200 and QW2520 programming.

    5. Enter missing, doubled or not wantedCursor stays in the field, or a form submits too early

CauseThe key sent after each barcode (the global suffix) has been changed, or your program adds its own Enter.

    Fix

    1. Scan a barcode in Notepad. If the cursor jumps to a new line, the scanner sends Enter.
    2. To send Tab instead, or to bring Enter back, follow the suffix steps in QD2200 and QW2520 programming.
    3. If your program adds its own Enter, clear the scanner's suffix in Datalogic Aladdin.
    6. Some barcodes don't readLight and aiming on, but no beep

CauseThe barcode type is not supported or is switched off, the label is damaged, or the distance is wrong.

    Fix

    1. QR codes, Data Matrix and other 2D codes never read on the QD2200: it is a 1D scanner. Use a 2D scanner such as the QW2520.
    2. If no barcode of one 1D type reads, enable that type in the PRG's Symbologies chapter (ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE, the enable barcode, ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE) or in Aladdin.
    3. Change the distance, clean the scan window and check the label. With the QD2200, keep the red line across the whole barcode.
    7. Codes on phone screens don't readTickets, coupons or QR codes on a smartphone

CauseDatalogic says the QD2200 reads electronic coupons on smartphone screens, but only 1D barcodes. QR codes in apps and tickets need a 2D scanner.

    Fix

    1. QD2200: check whether the code on the screen is a 1D barcode. For QR codes, use the QW2520.
    2. QW2520: Datalogic states that the QuickScan 2500 series reads codes on phone screens. If a screen still won't read, check the Mobile Phone Mode setting in the Camera Control section of the 2500 Family PRG (p. 110), or ask us for help.
    8. Scanner reads on its own, or not in the standIllumination comes on without the trigger, or nothing happens in the stand

CauseIn Stand Mode the scanner reads whenever an item enters its view. The stand from the kit does not switch modes for you.

    Fix

    • Back to trigger reading: scan ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE, Trigger Single, ENTER/EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE from the QRG's Scan Mode section.
    • Hands-free in the stand: on the QD2200 scan Stand Mode the same way; on the QW2520 scan Scan Mode = Stand Mode/Object Detection. Details are in the setup guide.
    9. Reset to defaultsStart again from a known configuration

CauseSettings were changed by mistake or are unknown.

    Fix

Each reset barcode is a single scan. Reset Default Settings (QRG) returns the defaults of the active interface, so select the right interface first. Restore EU Factory Configuration or Restore USA Factory Configuration (PRG) resets everything, including the interface. Afterwards, set the Country Mode and suffix again if you use them.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does my Datalogic scanner beep but not type anything?

No input field is active, or the interface doesn't match your software. Click into a field and scan Select USB Keyboard.

Can the Datalogic QD2200 read QR codes on a phone?

No. The QD2200 reads 1D barcodes only, including 1D coupons on smartphone screens. QR codes need a 2D scanner such as the QW2520.

    How do I reset a Datalogic QD2200 or QW2520?

Scan Reset Default Settings from the Quick Reference Guide, or Restore EU Factory Configuration from the Product Reference Guide. Both are single scans.
