Connect the Epson TM-m30III to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth

Our TM-m30III (C31CK50112) is the Standard model: it connects by USB and Ethernet and has no radio built in. You can add Wi-Fi with Epson's optional OT-WL06 wireless LAN unit. Bluetooth is only available on the separate Wi-Fi + Bluetooth model.

You'll need
  • The Epson OT-WL06 wireless LAN unit (for Wi-Fi on the Standard model)
  • Your Wi-Fi network name and password
  • A phone or tablet with the Epson TM Utility app, or any device with a web browser
  • The printer's administrator password, from the label on the printer or the status sheet

The model name and number are on a label at the back, under the printer covers. The self-test printout also shows the interface type.

Important

Epson makes TM-m30III printers sold in Europe from 2025 compliant with the cybersecurity rules of the Radio Equipment Directive ("Security Mode: RED" on the network status sheet). Each printer has its own administrator password, printed on a label and on the status sheet after "Initial Password:". You need it to change settings. Use Epson TM Utility version 3.38.0 or later. Secure Printing is on by default, so unencrypted network printing, such as raw printing on port 9100, doesn't work over Wi-Fi either; our setup guide explains what this means for your software.

Fit the OT-WL06 wireless LAN unit

Before you plug in the unit, set Wireless Chip Mode to Option Unit. Epson's settings table lists this setting in the printer's software setting mode, which you operate with the Feed button (the setup chapter also mentions Epson TM Utility and TM-m30III Utility):

  1. Close the roll paper cover. Hold Feed while you switch the printer on, until printing starts.
  2. When the self-test pauses, hold Feed for at least one second. A "Mode selection" guidance prints.
  3. Press Feed briefly three times, then hold it for at least one second to open Customize Value Settings.
  4. Follow the numbers on each printed guidance to Customize Value Settings › Interface Settings › Wireless Chip Mode and select Option Unit. Press briefly the number of times shown, then hold for at least one second to confirm.

Then switch the printer off and plug the OT-WL06 into the USB-A port at the rear. If the signal is weak, use the unit's extension cable to move it to a better spot.

Note

Unplug the Ethernet cable before you use Wi-Fi. While a LAN cable is connected, the printer switches wireless LAN off.

Join your Wi-Fi network

Choose one of two methods. On a Windows computer, use Web Config.

With Epson TM Utility (iOS or Android)

  1. Install Epson TM Utility from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard from the menu.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps.

With Web Config through SimpleAP

In SimpleAP mode the printer acts as its own access point for your phone, tablet or laptop. On a printer with no network set up and no cables connected, SimpleAP may start by itself and print a "SimpleAP Start" sheet; then start at step 4.

  1. With the printer on, open the roll paper cover and hold Feed until the Paper LED flashes, then release it.
  2. Close the cover. A guidance starting with "Next Action" prints.
  3. Press Feed briefly five times, then hold it for more than one second. The printer prints "SimpleAP was selected. Release the Feed button." and then the "SimpleAP Start" sheet.
  4. Scan the QR code on the sheet with your device. Or open its Wi-Fi settings, select the network name printed on the sheet and enter the password.
  5. Web Config may open by itself. If not, scan the QR code on the "WebConfig Start" guidance, or type the IP address from the "SimpleAP Start" sheet into a browser.
  6. Select the Wi-Fi menu and log in with the administrator password.
  7. Select your network from the list, then enter its password.

When the Wi-Fi LED lights steadily, the printer is connected. Applying new network settings restarts the printer, which can take about a minute.

The password label holds the default password. If your printer has no label, the default is the 10-character serial number, which is case-sensitive.

Check the connection and find the IP address

Print a status sheet to see the printer's IP address: open the roll paper cover, hold Feed for at least one second, close the cover, then follow the numbers on the "Next Action" guidance. Your POS app or driver needs this address.

  • Wi-Fi LED steady: connected and ready.
  • Wi-Fi LED flashing: connecting or still getting an IP address.
  • Wi-Fi LED off: not connected, or a LAN cable is plugged in.

Against interference, Epson recommends keeping the printer away from microwave ovens and using a channel that neighbouring shops don't use. If your app reports the printer as off when it is on, try setting Power Saving(Wi-Fi) to Disable in Web Config's network settings.

Bluetooth: Wi-Fi + Bluetooth model only

C31CK50112 has no Bluetooth, so this section only applies to the separate Wi-Fi + Bluetooth model. To pair it:

  1. Switch Bluetooth on in your phone or tablet settings.
  2. Open the roll paper cover, hold Feed until the Paper LED flashes, then release it and close the cover.
  3. Press Feed briefly once, then hold it for at least one second. A status sheet prints and the printer is ready to pair.
  4. On your device, select the name shown on the status sheet, TM-m30III_ followed by the last six digits of the serial number.

With the default security level (Middle), pairing is only possible for one minute after the status sheet prints. The printer remembers up to eight devices, but only one can be connected at a time. While the OT-WL06 is in use (Option Unit mode), Bluetooth is switched off.

Tablet POS: wireless or cable?

A tablet can also use a cable. The USB-C port charges it with up to 18 W and carries the print data. With network tethering on, the tablet also uses the printer's wired network, which Epson describes as more stable than shop Wi-Fi. Our TM-m30III setup guide explains the cable connections.

For Loyverse POS, see our Loyverse setup guide. For other POS apps, ask the supplier which connections they support. If the printer doesn't appear in your app, see the TM-m30III troubleshooting guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does the TM-m30III have Bluetooth?

Only the Wi-Fi + Bluetooth model. The Standard model, including C31CK50112, has no Bluetooth, and the OT-WL06 adds Wi-Fi only.

Do I need an internet connection to set up Wi-Fi?

For Web Config through SimpleAP, no: your device connects directly to the printer. Epson TM Utility's wizard needs an internet connection on your device.

What is the default Web Config password?

It is printed on the password label on the printer and on the status sheet. If there is no label, it is the printer's 10-character serial number.
